Bow Fishers Say They're Within Law

Mark Evans was clearly agitated. "This is what the DNR tells me I can do legally," said the Waterford Township resident. "I'm a firm believer if people knew what we were doing, we wouldn't get the hassle." Evans shoots carp and other rough fish with a bow and arrow.
He had just been informed Saturday night by a Wolverine Lake police officer that he had to be off the lake by midnight.
"It's 11:30 on a Saturday night, said Evans. "It's ridiculous."
Sgt. John Ellsworth of the Wolverine Lake Police Department said officers received two complaints that night - and he got a call Sunday morning.
"The reason they were asked to come off the lake more than anything, they came in on the public access, and the access was supposed to be closed from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.," he said.
"That was the only reason. What it was more than anything was the light were reflecting into people's houses."
